Spring Awakening is a rock musical adaptation of the controversial German masterpiece of the same name by Frank Wedekind about the suppression of young sexuality and its devastating consequences. Set in late-nineteenth century Germany, it explores the confusion and desperation of dozen young people that emerge when the onrushing tide of hormones meets the ignorance of children raised by parents too embarrassed or prudish to discuss what those new urges signify. Each is struggling to break loose from the opressive authority and the restrictions of their childhood as their bodies and minds develop into adulthood.
